Perfect 10 Miler

I have wanted to run this race for a few years now. Something every year comes up that usually conflicts. This year, however, was wide open. Was hoping to get some folks from work to run it as a follow up to the Davey 10K since a few of them have fall races planned, however, they all had to cancel. However, there was a great Vertical Runner contingent there.

I had little expectations for this race. I had just logged the highest number of miles in a training week and was coming in on really dead legs. My plan was to run it the best I could and not expect any land speed records.

I started the race off with the VR folks. They were planning on running 7 min pace so I thought that would be perfect. Once things got going by mile 4 or so, I was feeling pretty good so I started pushing it a bit.

My main goal was 1:10. After picking it up, I crossed the finish line in 1:08. I was pretty happy with that all things considered. I managed to land 3rd place in my age group. I was pretty shocked at that as well. This race is a pretty competive one every year.

So, now I have a PR in a 10 miler (never ran one before.) Funny thing it is faster than my 15K (9.3 miles) PR. Hmmm....actually by 2 minutes. Go figure!

This sets me up pretty darn close for what I need for Boston. Good thing...time is getting close. Better start looking for a half marathon!
