Happy Birthday Zorro!

On Halloween, Zorro turned 7. Hard to believe the little guy is that old already. So every year he gets a taco from Taco Bell. He usually kills is in 5 minutes or less. This year I got a video of it.

Watch video of Zorro's Birthday tacco.

2005 Detroit Marathon

Well I finished my crazy line up of marathons. This one got a little tough at the end. Went out a bit too fast, paid for it at the end. Pretty cool course. We ran from the US over to Canada. Did a few miles, then back to the US in the tunnel. It is the only marathon that spans two countries (that is what they say) and also the only one which does a mile under water.

Funny thing happened during the race. While people were exiting the US side of the tunnel, an alarm went off and the border fed guys freaked out and stopped the race. Seems someone set off the radioactive alarm (probably from drinking some barium.) They never did find the person who set it off. Click here for the news story.

Cleveland Towpath Marathon

On October 9th, I ran the Cleveland Towpath Marathon. I think this is my new favorite marathon. The Towpath Marathon is a small race, but it was extremely well organized, very well aided, and had a sort of "trail" feel to it. To top it all off, the weather was in the mid-fifties and overcast. Perfect running weather!

This was my third in a "three-week, three marathon" marathon, and ended up setting a personal record marathon time of 3:46. Both halves were split at 1:53 exactly. Pretty funny. I did the exact same thing at Cleveland back in May.

Jeff ran this one, too. At the end, we ran back to a little past mile 23 making it a 30 miler. The aide stations were still open so we were able to get Gatorade along the way. At one aide station, we met a really nice couple volunteering who were both triathletes training for their third Ironman.

I had a great time at this one. I think I am going to be running it again next year!

Akron Marathon

October 1st was the 2005 Akron Marathon. This marked my year mark in marathons. The race was number two in a three marathons in three weeks and I felt it, too. Things were going good. I was taking it easy and hanging with the 3:50 pace team. Then at mile 21...OUCH! I got some serious cramps in my legs. Think it was a carry over of the YUT-C 50K the week before. I was reduced to walking about 2 miles while I got things back under control and took it in very slowly. Oh well, I asked for this one. I told myself this is good training for the JFK50 in November.
All in all it was a great day. The weather was nice. And even though this is a tough course, the support it awesome. The whole town comes out to see and cheer everyone on.
